BSW Expand Production of Easi-Edge Timber
BSW Timber, the UK's largest sawmill, is increasing production of Easi-Edge - a high quality machine kiln dried and strength graded construction timber.
The company is investing around £2.75 million in new state-of-the-art online planing facilities at its sawmills in Newbridge-on-Wye, Carlisle and Fort William in a major drive to increase its share of the growing market for added-value timber. The new ultramodern planing systems will allow BSW to triple existing production rates of Easi-Edge across the group to approximately 150,000 m3 per year.
Easi-Edge is available in standard lengths and dimensions and is machine regulated for uniform dimensions - making construction projects easier. The end-product is smooth and easier to handle and takes applications, such as paint, preservative and stains, more easily.
Paul Barham, Chief Executive of BSW Timber said increasing Easi-Edge production is a response to growing customer demand for a more sophisticated end-product.
"The market for sawn timber is changing," he said. "Customers, especially from the construction industry, are now seeking a smoother and easier to handle product like Easi-Edge which has a precision machine finish rather than just rough sawn product.
"Developing new and innovative products like Easi-Edge means we can consolidate our position as a market leader to continue to give our customers an unmatched service," he added. The new systems include the latest in on-line planing and mechanical technology - involving sophisticated extraction systems for operational efficiency and best available technology to improve health and safety and environmental performance.
Integrated blade sharpening systems will also maximise the quality and delivery of the Easi-Edge product.
